Why Should You Convert Classroom Based Training Into Microlearning?

Boring PresentationThe rise of 3G/4G and the all pervasiveness of smart-phones and tablets has created the perfect conditions for microlearning to spring in to life and become a force in L&D almost overnight.

It is now making a serious challenge to the status quo, currently defined by class-room based training and threatens to become the dominant form of training.

Why?

Because bite-size, microlearning, delivered via mobile device in the form of timely and topical 3 minute videos, articles, pdfs, etc… has significant benefits over class-room training.

Actually, in many ways, it is easier for employees to access microlearning than traditional classroom learning, which brings us to the first reason you should be converting class-room training to microlearning.

Modern Staff Are Too Busy To Attend Away Days

Many of the in-need, time pressurized staff are too busy and distracted to attend training away days and, as a result, may be missing out on vital training and development opportunities.

By, converting these block courses to bite-size, 3 minute sessions of microlearning content this once inaccessible course can now be accessed by these busy managers in bits, on demand, right at the time of need.

Converting to microlearning will increase access to and uptake of learning opportunities in your firm.

Human Attention Spans Are More Suited To Microlearning 

Another reason to convert to microlearning is that research shows that learner attention spans are shortening and more suited to microlearning.

Learners checking their phones 27 times an hour in away that they didn’t 20 years ago.

We also know that the sweet spot for the human attention span, anyway, is up to about 10 minutes.

Traditional class-room block training spends a lot of time pushing information on relatively inattentive learners compared to microlearning that delivers all it’s content in the optimal 10 minute attention window.

This means that there promises to be greater engagement, retention and behaviour change from microlearning versus traditional class-room learning.

By repurposing traditional learning content into a 3 minute bite-size format of video, articles, pdfs, infographics, quizzes etc…  you will be aligning your learning and development processes with the way that modern people learn.
