How to Implement Awaab’s Law as a Housing Association
A Brief Summary
About Awaab’s Law
If you’re looking for support with your training, then you’ll likely know the details of Awaab’s Law and the importance of its implementation for keeping UK tenants safe from hazards, following the tragic death of two-year-old Awaab Ishak, who died in 2020 due to mould exposure.
Here’s a summary from the National Housing Association;
How To Train Teams On the New Law
Skillshub Chief Learning Officer, Jenny Verman, explains how we’ve provided three short e-learning modules to support teams that need to understand the changes in laws and how this affects real working days.

It changed expectations around how quickly and confidently people need to act when concerns are raised.
Those expectations don’t sit within just one role, the law applies across whole organisations, managers, housing officers, repairs teams, call handlers.
But much of the training available focuses on what the law is, rather than what to do when a real issue lands on someone’s desk.
At this point was when one housing association came to Skillshub.
They weren’t just looking for a legal overview or a policy summary.
They wanted their entire workforce to understand what the law meant in practice, for their role, on a real working day.
What they needed was training that went beyond awareness, they needed full clarity.
So…..,. we developed three short eLearning modules together.

The aim was simple: make it clear what needs to happen when an issue is raised, wherever it enters the organisation.
And we did just that.
We rolled the training out across the whole organisation, so everyone received the same guidance and expectations.
For staff, the benefit was knowing exactly what was required.
They weren’t left interpreting policy or second-guessing what the law expected of them.
They have a clear reference point for what to do when a concern is raised.
What matters?
What action is required?
And what needs to happen next.

It reduced hesitation and removed the feeling of “getting it wrong”.
and because the training was designed as three short eLearning modules, staff can dip back into it whenever they need a reminder, without it taking over their day.
The training doesn’t just meet legal requirements, it changes behaviour.
If you’re still heavily relying on policies to cover Awaab’s Law, you’re taking a risk. We have eLearning readily available now, that’s been tried and tested.
It’s practical, focused on real decisions, and ready for your people to use straight away.
